Prahalad Srinath the Mysore born, Mysore Tennis Club professional with
a ATP ranking of 629 is amongst top tennis players in the country.
Srinath an officer with I.O.C, a former national champion as after a
lay off due to injury has hit the headlines with some good
performances in the I.F.F Futures
championship. Partnering Martin Spotti of Austria, Srinath won the men's
double's title beating Rishi Sridhar/ Manoj Mahadeven 6-4,6-7(4-7),
6-3 in the finals of the Bangalore leg. |

Earlier in the I.F.F futures tournament held at Calcutta, Srinath
playing some marvelous tennis silenced his critics by recording a
6-4,6-0 win over second seeded Dmitri Tomashevich (426) in the
quarter-final. In the semi-finals, Srinath put up a good fight before
going down to the six seeded Jaroslav Levinsky (CZE) 6-4,3-6,
6-7(5-7). |

His good performance earned him selection to the Indian Davis cup team
which was played in China in February in Beijing. The team members of
the winning Indian team were
Leander Paes, Mahes Bhupathi and Fazaluddin, with Ramesh Krishnan and
Nandan Bal as the non playing captain and coach. |

Srinath earlier represented the country in the Davis cup tie against
Sweden in the World group play-off at Bastad in July 2000. Earlier he
represented India in the Davis Cup tie against Lebanon held at Luknow.
In January 2000, Srinath partnering with Sourav Panja entered the
finals Gold Flake Open ATP tourney held at Chennai. In the finals
Srinath & Sourav Panja went down fighting to Julien Boutter of France
and Chirstopher Rochus of Belgium 5-7,1-6. In the semi-finals, Srinath
and Sourav Panja pulled of a coup by notching up their biggest win in
the career by beating Oleg Ogorovor(UZB) and Thomas Ketola of Finland
6-3,2-6,7-6(7-4). |
| Srinath is a vastly
improved player and presently he has been garnering vital ATP points
by playing in satellite tournaments in Phillpness and European
circuit. |
