Hockey, considered to be our countries National sport has seen India rule the game in the earlier days. India won the Olympic and Asian gold and created an image with their brand of skilful hockey. Hockey wizards like Dhayan Chand, and quality players like Ajith Pal Singh, Surjit Singh, B.P.Govindha, Zafar Iqbal, Philips, V.Bhaskaran ,M.P.Ganesh and Leslie Claudius have been responsible for India's excellent in the yester years.performance in the International arena. Mysore also has been a center which has been regularly producing talented hockey palyers. Players from Coorg, have gone to represent the country in different levels. The Sports Hostel (Mysore), a center for tapping fresh talent in women's hockey, has produced quality women hockey players who have donned Indian colors. Players like B.M.Geetha (Ekalavya Award winner), Roshan (Indian junior) have done Mysore proud with their achivements.

The Mysore District Hockey Association has been sitting merrily on its past laurels and presently has to work hard to improve the game in the mofussil center by conducting age level tournaments and the league on a regular basis.
