Basketball is a Global sport which needs endurance, stamina and
skill to excel in the highest level. Basketball is very popular
in USA and the game has developed at a very fast pace in the
Western and Asian countries like Japan, China, Korea etc. |

Mysore has been regularly contributing talented players to the
state and national scene. Sports Hostel, Mysore has been
producing quality players from time to time. Some of them have
gone on to represent the country. Reshma Chengappa (ABC Junior,
Manila), M.M.Dechamma (ABC Juniors, Manila and Japan, Senior
ABC, Singapore), Roopa Naik (Senior ABC, Seoul), P.S.Zarina
(Senior ABC, Seoul), B.S.Shyla (Senior ABC, Seoul and Bangkok),
Pavithra Chandran and C.S.Savitha (ABC Junior, New Delhi) are
some of the players who have donned Indian colors. |

The current state women's senior team has five/six girls from
the Sports Hostel, Mysore team namely Nethra, M.U.Pavithra,
M.U.Prarthana, Shilpa, N.Pavithra, L.S.Savitha, YashuKumari. M.R.Savitha led the state team in the
Nationals this year. |

In the men's section players like Urs, J.Sridhar, Ramakanth.V.Rao,
Gururaj, Shivanna, Prashant Siddanna Gowda, Rajesh Raj Urs have
represented the state in the state and national level and have brought
laurels to the state. |

The Mysore District Basketball Association is promoting the
sport by conducting district-league and other tournaments
regularly. |
